All but Earth were given the names of Greek and Roman gods thousands of years ago, except for the more recently discovered planets (which were named along the same vein).

All the planets in our solar system with exceptions to Earth derive their names from Roman gods which have their Greek counterparts. Mercury or Hermes Venus or Aphrodite Mars or Ares Jupiter or Zeus Saturn or Kronos Uranus from Ouranus Neptune or Poseidon Pluto or Hades You can read up on greek mythology to know what each god is god of. I will recommend Percy Jackson.
